イギリスの詩人、兼挿絵画家として有名なウイリアム・ブレイクの作品「天国と地獄の結婚」を元にした、1999年発表の4thアルバムであり、2枚組の大作。とりあえずこの作品を楽しむため、原文の日本語訳を入手して読みながら聴いていますが、これはとても興味深い作品ですね。

私はブレイクはおろかロマン派の詩人の作品自体に触れた事が無かったんですが、衝撃的な内容を多分に含んでいて多少なりとも驚いてしまいました。特に既存の宗教の価値観をある意味で否定しているようにも取れる「The Voice Of The Devil」や、格言を羅列したような示唆的な「Proverbs Of Hell」に最も興味を惹かれました。前者はもしかしたらブラックメタルをプレイする人たちにも共感する所があったかもしれませんが、当時(1700年代末期)教会等に批判されなかったのか、ちょっと気になります。
