タイトルは大上段に構えた社会的テーマに見えるが、本質はラヴソングだと思う。第2次ブリティッシュインベージョン後期に当たる85年、Shoutに続いて全米№1に輝いた独自の世界観をほのぼのメロディに乗せた曲だ。

MOTLEY CRUE の Shout at the Devil と"わざわざ比べている"のは実はこの曲なのだ。時期的にはこっちの方が後? しかし音楽性の違いを考えると評価は対等か?

この曲がリリースされた80年代、とある化粧品会社のCMソングに使われ、ゴールデンタイムでよく流れていた。
よってオジサン世代には結構有名かも。
ポップな曲だが、歌詞は核兵器だか原発だか忘れたけどとにかく社会的な内容だったような。
違ってたらすまん。

かつて「世界遺産」という番組(TBS)で
サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラ(への巡礼路)を取り上げた際、
かかっていたのがこの曲だった。
そしてそれは巡礼路の風景や、巡礼者達の映像に、とてもよく似合っていた。
信仰心に篤くない私ですら、敬虔な気持ちにさせられたことをよく覚えている。
